 Deputy Minister of Turkish Ministry of Family and Social Policy Dr. Askın ASAN Visited Japan

 Deputy Minister of Turkish Ministry of Family and Social Policy Dr. Askin ASAN made a study visit to Japan, between September 09-11, 2013.
One of Deputy Minister's significant meetings was with Ms. Yukako UCHINAGA who is board chair of J-Win, a non-profit organization that promotes diversity in workplace, and co-chair of Japan Gender Parity Task Force, on September 11th, 2013.  

Deputy Minister Dr. Askin ASAN pointed out Turkey's efforts to reduce the gender gap in women's labour participation by 10 per cent before the end of 2015 and about "Equality at Work Platform" which was aimed at actualize this target in Turkey. Under the Platform and with the backing of the World Economic Forum (WEF) and the Turkish Ministry of Family and Social Policies, 55 leading private-sector companies operating in sectors as diverse as banking, automotive, construction and media, and including giants such as Sabanci Holding and Dogus Holding, together with international corporations active in Turkey, such as Vodafone and Coca-Cola, committed to promoting the participation of women in the Turkey's labour force and to equalise working conditions.

Ms. UCHINAGA appreciated Turkey's efforts to reduce gender gap and establishment of "Equality at Work Platform" and gave some information about Japan's Gender Parity Task Force. She told that they have three co-chair, two women and one man, in the task force. From government side, task force is supported by three ministers and also Prime Minister. On business world side, KEIDANREN (Japan Business Federation) supports the task force activities. 

Ms. UCHINAGA also told that women labour participation rate in Japan is 42 per cent and rate of women in managerial positions is 10 per cent; it is very hard job to increase these rates in three years. Japan Gender Parity Task Force will have a kickoff meeting on October 25th, 2013 and a progress meeting in December, 2013.  

After this meeting, Deputy Minister Dr. ASAN had a meeting with Parliamentary Secretary of Cabinet Office and Parliamentary Secretary for Reconstruction Mr. Yoshitami KAMEOKA, on September 11th, 2013. Deputy Minister Dr. ASAN told about Turkey's efforts to reduce gender gap and gave information on the structure of "Equality at Work Platform" and underlined the importance of government's support in case of reducing gender gap in the country.
