The Minister of Family and Social Policies Ms. Fatma Şahin delivered a speech at the workshop on "Gender Dynamics: How Can The Countries Close The Gender Gap" held as part of the Annual Session of the World Economic Forum in Davos. In her speech, Ms. Şahin remarked that the issues of special concern to her Ministry such as social policies, protection of family, women's participation in labor force and reduction of income disparity have become key agenda items recently on account of their contributio to economy and development, which is felt ever more each day.

The Minister Fatma Şahin pointed out that the work done by the "Equality at Work Platform", which was constituted under co-presidency of the prominent businessmen Güler Sabancı and Ferit Şahenk, attracted a great deal of attention from the participant representing numerous countries.

Ms. Şahin reported that an elaborative survey on human resources was conducted at 55 out of 100 largest companies in Turkey in scope of the "Equality at work Platform" activities and it revealed that 40% of the giant companies did not have breastfeeding rooms and 60% of them offered no creche facilities. Underlining that it is a bothersome panorama for the business world and her confidence in the companies to do what it takes, Ms. Şahin noted her Ministry promotes women employment on one hand and endeavors to create the circumstances essential for reconciliation of work and family life on the other hand.
